I machined the dome to clean it up. The spec in the book is 0.5 mm. This is approx 19 thousands. Cylindricity was a major issue. I laid it out and, took the measurements on the CMM. So now I have a complete CAD input and, can fab one from any material I want. Horrible Russian quality. I guess Russian and Quality in the same sentence is an Oxymoron. Anyway, I have pics if anyone is interested. Hope to post them to my web page as soon as the wife gets it going again. So far no leaks. Only an hour in the air yet. I live in Mich and. is an inclimate toilet so..... flying is limited. :( -------- It's not a real world war untill France surenders! I've learned alot about the aircraft here, but I have a few additional questions when someone has a moment. First, as it can get cold here from time to time (like October to April!) I'm interested in any cold wx ops tips. What sort of engine oil and/or cylinder heater is good on the Housai? I have electricity available in the hanger I will be using. If I only use an oil pan heater, what sort of warm-up procedure will keep my engine happy? I've noticed comments regarding Carb Ice for the M-14, is the Housai the same? Can anyone recommend a list of spares and tools to have at immediate readiness? What size of portable air compressor would be good for that inevitable day when I forget to close the main air valve, and what sort of adaptor would I need to connect to the filler port? Thanks in advance! My calendar shows that the Spartanburg, SC is coming up soon but I can't find any details on the RPA site or in 'list archives either. Who is the contact here and which airport is the event being held at? There some specialized tools in there that are a big help. Every thing else is metric. Mostly 7mm, 9mm, 11mm, 14mm, 17mm, 19mm, and 21mm. Just go out and buy a good set of all sizes of metric tools. Do the same for sockets. I forget what size the plugs are. One special tool I found very handy is the socket to take off the oil screen at the back of the engine, however you can find a socket that will fit that. There are a few specialized tools to remove the compressor and mags, but you can make these. An ordinary air compressor will not build up enough pressure to fully load up a CJ's system to normal pressure. Most guys buy a scuba tank and tap the fill point on the airplane with a strut valve. They simply have a local dive shop refill it. You can get 3 or 4 refills from one bottle. One could get a strut pump or a Cornelius compressor (a 24v 3 stage compressor that was used to charge guns on various bombers during WW2.) The strut pump is the easiest to find. You can get a scuba compressor setup but that is way to expensive and way over kill. Carb ice for th Housai is the same as the M-14. There's not carb heat as you might think as on US engines but more of an 'alternate air' source. In that you take in warmer air from behind the cylinders. The pressure carbs of these engine are not as ice prone BUT- - - . Pre heating the engine is as straight foreard as any other. While here is Florida that's not necessity to say the least, I've seen a different number of set ups that each persons swears by. Electric heating pads glued to the oil tank and oil sump, heated dip sticks in the oil tank, electric hot air heaters with blower fans with insulated blankets to trap the heat. I'm sure you can even get units that will keep your oil at a set temperature 24/7. Others on this list can give you better details than I, but these are minor problems for the CJ. Your biggest problem will be trying to decide which to use. :-) Jim "Pappy" Goolsby --> Yak-List message posted by: "CJcanuck" I'm in the final stretch of my pre-purchase research for a CJ to be based near Toronto. They did a spot on airparks and commuting to work in your airplane. The example shown was Cameron Airpark where Brian lives. Sooo, a quick shot of a CJ and mention of a Yak-52 taxiing by on national news. Good work guys!
